Planned Parenthood Endorses Challengers to Espada and Diaz, Sr.

The New York Observer Politicker NY blog reports that Planned Parenthood is endorsing the Challengers to Pedro Espada and Ruben Diaz, Sr. -- two of the "Four Amigos" of the State Senate. They are joining almost the rest of the world (see note below) in throwing their support behind Gustavo Rivera against Espada, and backing Charlie Ramos against Ruben Diaz, Sr. While it's good to see any endorsements against Senate incumbents, who knew Planned Parenthood could endorse in political races?? Also, notice from this Daily News article that there are at least two other elected officials in the Bronx besides Ruben Diaz, Sr. who are willing to stand with Pedro Espada -- former Bronx Boss and Assemblyman Jose Rivera and Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo.

  1. The actual organization that does healthcare work can't endorse and did not endorse.

Read the piece carefully and you will see, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, a separately incorporated political action fund is the entity that endorsed.

The story about the young woman from the Bronx and her encounter with Diaz,Sr makes me despise the bigoted homophobe even more. The man is as big an embarrassment as his amigo Pedro. Man, if Gustavo and Charlie can both win we should declare September 14th Bronx Pride Day.

  2. I want to hear nan about Planned Parenthood really. What many people do not know is that Planned Parenthood started as a genocide movement against the poor - specifically poor persons of color.

For some odd reason, Planned Parenthood's version of Pro-Choice is the new black - has been for decades actually. Planned Parenthood has a HUGE lobby in Washington, D.C. as well as the support of celebrities and ignoramuses everywhere. The fact of the matter is, child abuse rates have gone UP since Roe v. Wade.

It's one thing to fight for access to birth control...it's another thing all togther to fight for a teenagers right to have an abortion without parental consent. If a child cannot have a tooth pulled without parental consent, why would the same child be able to walk into a Planned Parenthood to have her uterus scraped and drained?

While many will most likely jump on this comment with full support for "CHOICE", I think it would be wise of everyone to take into consideration that abortion is a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR industry. An industry that - by and large - preys on the vulnerabilities of the poor. Perhaps if there was more of an effort placed into providing FREE birth control to all (abortion is not and should not be a form of birth control; abortion is a worse case scenario last resort) we would not have so many screaming banshees on both sides (pro-life and pro-choice) demanding "rights". Nobody is winning when our society is being manipulated by billionaire "medical" organizations.

Further, moral issues have no place in the political realm...the fight would never be fair given the fact that 90% of our politicans are as dirty as the average mud wrestler in a septic tank.

  3. Tony Cassino, you should know better than to allow political statements on your blog that are from angry misfits. You are a former community board member, and as such you are not allowed to politicize the board or the neighborhood. This is a conflict of interest that stinks to the sky.

  4. Nobody reads the New York Observer. It's a nutty pink newspaper.

  5. A U.S. appeals court has temporarily lifted a federal funding ban for stem cell research. What do the challengers to Espada and Diaz, Sr. think about that?

  6. What is the wider Christian position on embryonic stem cell research? We already know what Pope Benedict XVI has to say, but what are the thoughts of the first bishop of the world's second-largest Christian Church, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople?

  7. What in the world do Espada and Diaz Sr. have to do with Pope Benedict XVI and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I?
