Espada the Deadbeat--Again

The Daily News reports that State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada still owes the Board of Elections over $13,000 -- after he has repeatedly promised to pay this debt. Apparently, last year Senate President Malcom Smith even threatened to take action against him unless he paid this debt, but to this day he remains the Senate Majority Leader. Accusations of stealing $14 million from his health care business, $20,000 of taxpayer funds spent on sushi, living outside his district, and owing thousands of dollars to the board of elections -- what does it take to get kicked out of a leadership position in the Senate?

  1. Apparently the only thing frowned upon in the NY State Governmant is the desire and willingness to do the right thing, or taking a stand on Ethical or Human Rights Issues. Oh and lets not forget that if you really want to reform and move the legislation into a government for the people they try to crucify you because God forbid you try to seperate Church and State. (cut to pictures of our Fore Fathers rolling in thier graves) So all the things that Espineless is doing is OK. Why do you think Senator Schneiderman who is all about reform ready to dump the old gang? He could not seem to get things moving in the right direction with those mules. I think he is so disgusted with his colleagues that he has chosen to jump ship.

  2. Schneiderman is no better than the others. He stood by when the people of the 33rd district had to choose between Efrain Gonzalez-already indicted for embezzlement, and the soon-to-be-indicted Espada. The Bronx County Democrats endorsed Gonzalez, Schneiderman went along and the people got to choose between two crooks.

  3. When there is ONLY a choice between Two Evils you need to go with what you think is the LESSER of the Two Evils at the time. Obviously if there ever is a better choice one would go with the better.
