NY Times reports today that the challenger to Assemblyman Peter Rivera, Luis Sepulveda, is aggressively courting the Bangladeshi vote. Apparently, there is a large contingent of people from Bangladesh in their district (could be as high as 2500), but no one had ever bothered to ask for their vote. What was also interesting is that the article noted that only about 5,100 people voted in primary in 2004 -- out of 53,000 registered Democrats!

ReplyDeleteIn the Bangladesh’s standard colloquial Bengali, the Muslims and Hindus use different words. I wonder whether Rivera and Sepulveda favor one or the other?
ReplyDeleteOn a borough-wide level, Ruben Diaz Jr. probably uses the Hindu variation, though he’s I’m sure he’s also conversant in the Muslim vocabulary. He and his father are known for their tremendous language abilities.

ReplyDeleteBoy, do i feel bad for the parkchester community. Which two of the lesser evils do they select to represent them in Albany? Everyone knows Peter's dirty laundry. But dont be fooled by Luis. He's been around Bronx politics for many years and is member of the Diaz camp. He knows every little trick in the book. If elected, it will be a matter of time before his residency is questioned.
