More Bronx Primaries on Tap Involving "Riveras"

Looks like there may actually be at least three primaries in the Bronx in the coming months -- and they all involve a person with the last name Rivera, although none are related. In addition to the primary of Naomi Rivera mentioned on this blog earlier, Gustavo Rivera also has a challenger. The Norwood News reports that Manny Tavarez will be running against Rivera. Tavarez worked on the campaign of Hector Ramirez who tried to unseat Assemblyman Nelson Castro. In addition to that race, there will be a hot contest to replace outgoing Assemblyman Peter Rivera, who is leaving the Assembly after two decades to head up the State Labor Dept. under Gov. Cuomo.  The Norwood News says that Danny Figueroa, Rivera's longtime Chief of Staff is looking to take the seat. Another contender could be Luis Sepulveda, who challenged Riveral in 2010.  Getting hard to keep all these Rivera's straight. Let's hope that Joel Rivera does not get a challenge next!

It's not very little, but it is very poor. There is a lot of money between the district lines and it has made the local politicos and their non-profit friends wealthy. Keep it in one family and it is nepotism.

  3. I think that it is awful that Luis Se-Puppet-da has shown up recently in the district in the last two years, and now thinks he is entitled to get the assembly seat, while Danny has been working for the district for over 25 years. The only reason Se-Puppet-da has a chance is because his puppetmaster (Diaz Sr) is pulling his strings. Without Diaz Sr., Se-Puppet-da is NOTHING...and loses. Se-Puppet-da has been riding the Diaz Sr. coattail for the last two years...putting his name on all Senator Diaz announcements and Flyers...and he is not even a staffer...wait..is that legal??? So...the Puppet Master has Assemblyman Crespo on one hand and Se-Puppet-da on the other, if he wins. Let's get ready for the puppet show if that happens....ask them both their thoughts and opinions on anything...either it is the same as Diaz Sr....or they have to get back to you to find out what Diaz Sr. thinks.....Good Luck Luis "Pinnochio" Se-Puppet-da; and God help the District if he win...

  5. Regarding Mister Sepulveda, please only make fun of the person, not the name.

  6. Not making fun of the name...Sepulveda is a nice name...making fun of the person...because he is a PUPPET...so it fits in nicely with Se-Puppet-da. Its a strong name and he doesn't deserve to have it...so Se-PUPPET-da it shall remain.

  8. Oh, my, how things have changed here since the days when James J. Lyons was Bronx Borough President and a Member of the New York City Board of Estimate.

    1. James Lyons? I do not understand the point of this history recitation.

I am from Syria. I remember my grandfather telling me about General Gouraud, the old French High Commissioner in Syria and Lebanon in the early 1920s. See what I mean?

    1. Actually, there are many politicians in The Bronx vying for the title of dumbest person. Some of them will certainly give him a run for his money.

  10. These Bronx pols are totally behind the curve on the things actually matter to most Bronxites. It is sad that the politicians refuse to change their wrongheaded ways.

  12. Came across this quote, and it reminded me of a lot of people involved in Bronx Politics. We have a lot of Judas Goats in Bronx politics.

“No matter how much I wanted all those things that I needed money to buy, there was some devilish current pushing me off in another direction -- toward anarchy and poverty and craziness. That maddening delusion that a man can lead a decent life without hiring himself out as a Judas Goat.”
