Bronx Political Chatter is a no holds-barred, irreverent look at politics in the Bronx. Bronxites have long lacked an independent forum to express our views about local politics and politicians. Bronx Political Chatter is a place for you to openly express your views, ideas, criticisms and suggestions, and to make our elected officials more accountable for the decisions they make. So this is your turn to be heard.

Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera to Get a Primary
It appears that State Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera, daughter of former Bronx Boss Jose Rivera, will have to work over the summer now that a newcomer has decided to challenge her in a primary. The Daily News reported that real estate broker Mark Gjonaj will challenge Rivera in the primary this September. Mr. Gjonaj grew up on Arthur Avenue and is a Commissioner on the Taxi and Limousine Commission. Stay tuned for this one.

That political family is an an unmitigated horror!
ReplyDeleteRivera .... Desperate to be cool?
ReplyDeleteNaomi Rivera is amazing and she's great elected represenative.
ReplyDeleteOh really? Why do you say that? Did she pay you?
DeleteIt's time to give Naomi Rivera the boot
DeleteShe is in a pickle!
DeleteGjonaj sounds like someone who's actually doing real things in the real world. I'd support him.
ReplyDeleteHey, that's only ONE vote!
DeleteWow, if someone like her holds elective office there must be something really wrong with our priorities in this borough.
ReplyDeleteNo need to cast aspersions at her just to build up someone else.
DeleteMark Gjonaj only registered as a democrat last year, and he lives on City Island. His big, gaudy campaign office is an eyesore. Naomi isn't exactly spectacular, but at least she holds a residence within the 80th district and is not a conservative-republican, John McCain supporter.
ReplyDeletewow ... that's some lackluster endorsement for Naomi Rivera
DeleteFYI, the name Gjonaj is pronounced "jo-nigh"
Delete... and who are these people exactly?
ReplyDeleteAccording to FEC Records (http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/qind/), Marj Gjonaj has donated $9,600 to national republicans from 2003-2008. Including $7,100 to John McCain and $0 to Barack Obama.
ReplyDeleteWhy is a John McCain supporter running in a Democratic Primary in the Bronx?
Is it true that this Assemblymen elect has placed a person who was ACCUSED of smuggling drugs from Albania into the United States. She is now the Director of the Albanian Senior program which is located in the Bronx House on Pelham Pkwy. Many of our children from the community attend activities there.... doesn't the Bronx House do a criminal background check on the people that work there...
ReplyDeleteYes, his parents were honest and hard working people, but Mark Gjonaj has helped many people especially himself....he moves in his mistress's family members into the building he lives in so when the wife is away the mistress's, while visiting their family members sneak into his apartment and service him....what a wonderful MAN he is and NO ONE is the wiser.....Smart businessman we have here, and he wants to be our leader.....
ReplyDeleteMark Gjonaj....a "candy store racketeer".....hahahahahahahahaha your making me pee my pants
ReplyDeleteI see from the last comments here what kind of campaign Naomi Rivera is planning to run.
ReplyDeleteI was not interested until now, but these comments make me vote for Mark Gjonaj.
I'd rather have him than someone who resorts to personal attack and family gossip. Shame on you Naomi for the kind of language you and your people are using.
