The New York Post reports that former State Senator Pedro Espada, who is now under indictment, was the most generous boss in Albany. In just the last three months of 2010, Espada spent more than $750,000 on staff -- which was more than any other Senator for a full six month period. You have to ask yourself, who was watching the store here?
Any idea how many NY pols are currently under indictment?
ReplyDeleteStaff costs should be capped across the board for State Legislators.
ReplyDeleteIt is an unfair assessment by the Post and other media. As Majority Leader, Senator Espada had additional funding lines. He utilized the lines for staff. The public can get on the bandwagon and hate Espada, but if it was a positive atmosphere for reelection to Senate and then Majority Leadership again, those monies would have gone towards the poorest district in the Bronx, for a very long time. The Bronx never had a Majority Leader before and may never see those funding lines again.
