Dinowitz Wants State Park Smoking Ban

The New York Post reports that Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz wants to extend the City's park smoking ban to state parks such as Jones Beach and Roberto Clemente park. But he has yet to find a sponsor in the State Senate.

  1. Australia is now planning to put cigarettes in olive-green boxes to curb the tobacco habit . . . The thinking is that a dull, unappealing color will turn off potential smokers.

  2. It's a very good idea but unfortunately too late from the standpoint of Jeff Dinowitz's supporters. Most of the Dinowitz voter base (including me) is too feeble from old age and disease to benefit from this.

  3. Can we ban Dinowitz?

  4. Isn't that the same Jeffrey Dinowitz who in 2005 announced his FIRM support for Rep. Anthony Weiner’s campaign for Mayor by praising the way Weiner STANDS with the people of Riverdale and the northwest Bronx?

  5. Regarding "Weinergate," if Assemblyman Dinowitz feels so strongly about Congressman Weiner, I think Mr. Dinowitz owes it to his friend to help him come clean.

  7. Ban Dinowitz??

Luckily, Dinowitz's club is dying out. He has not groomed a rising generation to replace the old-timers.

  8. In the photo, is the dude in the red shirt over that jackass's right shoulder smoking?

  9. Will Dinowitz’s proposed ban also cover MARIJUANA?

  10. “I have made some terrible mistakes,” Representative Anthony D. Weiner said. “I have not been honest.”

I don't see how Mr. Weiner can ever run for mayor when all he has left is a pack of lies, a furious wife, brutal public embarrassment, and the support of Jeffrey Dinowitz.

  11. With the implosion of Congressman Anthony Weiner, Bronx Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz just saw his best chance for power in City Hall go up in smoke! Weiner was his political meal ticket, and the one who had the best shot at rising above a crowded field of mayoral hopefuls.

  12. Poor Dinowitz. His champion Anthony Weiner DID send dirty pictures to SIX women, then lied about it, then apologized, saying it was dumb but he WON'T resign.

Looks like Dinowitz hitched his fortune with a big-time looser. Maybe that's why Dinowitz has such a sour look on his puss in the photo.

  13. Mayor is out of the question for Weiner. In fact, he might end up resigning or being forced from office, in which case Governor Cuomo would determine the timing of a special election to replace him.

  14. Maybe all politicians are just gross underneath it all.

  15. Weiner must go!

    ReplyDelete
  16. For someone who had a lot of friends online, it seems that Anthony Weiner does not have a lot of friends in politics these days (except for Jeffrey Dinowitz).

  17. Who cares if Dinowitz supports or supported Weiner. There are bigger problems to worry about ... like the fact that our national debt will exceed the size of our economy this year -- a first since World War II.

  18. The White House has sure been keeping its distance from the Weiner scandal.

  19. Weinergate just keeps getting worse! Now there's a leaked x-rated picture of his private parts, AND his wife is pregnant.

There is NO WAY that Rep. Weiner survives this tawdry scandal!

  20. Weiner is facing intense pressure to resign, even from his Democrat colleagues and friends. But if we want to be fair, we need to ask... Why aren't members of Congress and the media demanding that Senator David Vitter resign? Vitter is even worse than Weiner, BUT VITTER IS STILL IN CONGRESS!

Please recall that Vitter was outed in 2007 during the DC Madam sex scandal as a frequent client of prostitutes. (allegedly wearing diapers during these visits, but there are no photos).

  21. So BOTH Weiner and Vitter should go!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So Jeffrey Dinowitz wanted Anthony Weiner to be mayor? Good thing we didn't listen to Mr. Dinowitz . . . Otherwise we would have a hot-to-trot freak show on Twitter living in Gracie Mansion!

  23. As Colleen Hanley and everyone else at Amalgamated Houses knows, never trust Dinowitz.

  24. Now that Congressman Anthony Weiner has made his pecker public, NY State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz is so quiet about the whole thing despite his years of supporting Mr. Weiner.

Things that make you go "Hmmm"

  25. A lot of people wanted Anthony Weiner to be mayor, how can you fault Jeffe' for that?

As for Vitter, he was outed long after the sins took place and had since repented (Que laugh track). Weiner's action were stupid, creepy and most importantly (and unlike Vitter) he lied when he was (literally) caught with his pants down, something the media will never forgive.

And how come the site doesn't get updated any more, is it funded by the Conservancy?

  26. Regarding Rep. Anthony Weiner, here's an interesting piece just posted by Ezra Klein in the Washington Post:

DOES WEINER'S PUNISHMENT FIT HIS CRIME?
    By Ezra Klein

I thought Derek Thompson made a fairly persuasive case this morning that Anthony Weiner shouldn’t resign. Weiner, however, appears to feel differently about it. He’s expected to give up his seat in a 2 p.m. press conference.

I can’t help feeling badly for him. What he did was disrespectful to his office, to the women who innocently got in contact with him and to his family. Reading the transcripts of his chats made me feel sick. But aside from perhaps his wife, it’s not clear anyone was actually hurt. Except, ultimately, Weiner. He’s now a national laughingstock, his career is over and the actual work he did as a legislator is forgotten. He’s paid a tremendous price for having consensual — if indiscreet, undignified and unfaithful — communications with women online.

From start to finish, of course, this was his fault. He initiated these chats. He accidentally tweeted a picture of himself publicly. He lied about being hacked. He decided against immediately resigning. Still, I’m having a hard time convincing myself that the punishment fits the crime. If Weiner had simply had an affair, or hadn’t sent so many vain pictures, it’s hard to believe that this would’ve turned out similarly. David Vitter, after all, visited prostitutes — which is to say, he appears to have consummated a form of infidelity that is specifically illegal — and he’s still a serving member of the Senate.

So much as Weiner is paying for anything, he’s paying for how media-friendly his indiscretions were, how the pictures and transcripts kept dribbling out, how little goodwill he had among his fellow Democrats. Weiner was always better than his colleagues at making himself, his work and his comments interesting for the media to cover. Ultimately, he turned out to be much, much too good at it.

  27. Come on, give Jeffrey Dinowitz a break! He's entitled to make a few bad picks. And how could he be expected to know that what Congressman Weiner was up to in his personal life?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Weiner's chance to become mayor in 2013 seems unlikely but it's still unclear what may happen with his political future because he's is popular in his district. The fact that he held on so long shows that he's a real fighter. I'm sure that little-known Bronx politicians like Oliver Koppell, Jeff Klein and Jeff Dinowitz would have resigned when the first crotch shot became public.

  29. Compared to Weiner, Jeffrey Dinowitz is a rank amateur in public service!

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you want to see a real sorry show, take a look at what Oliver Koppell and Jeffrey Dinowitz are trying to do to Community Board Eight. They just tried but failed to take over the board's vice chairmanship. That's a real punch in the nose for both the councilman and the assemblyman!

  31. Hey look at this report from ABC News:

WORSE THAN WEINER? SOME DELINQUENT LAWMAKERS KEPT THEIR JOBS

But there are some things the former New York congressman could have gotten away with, including driving under the influence and crashing into a capital office building barricade in the wee ...

  32. I think that Anthony D. Weiner should get a joint talk show on CNN with Eliot L. Spitzer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's sad and outrageous that there are WORSE offenders than Anthony Weiner still serving in Congress.

And as for Albany, don't get me started.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Isn't Dinowitz a big supporter of Adriano Espada?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Loyalty and alliances mean nothing in Albany. Dinowitz is being sold out right now by one of his comrades and he doesn't even know it.
