Diaz Releases Ideas for Kingsbridge Armory

It's finally here -- Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. released his long awaited report on what should fill the vacant Kingsbridge Armory. As Bronx News Network reports this report really does not recommend a specific use. Instead it calls on the EDC to issue another Request for Proposal for the site. Is anyone else confused by this? I think Bronxities were led to believe by the Borough President a year ago that this task force would come up with a better idea for this unique site. Of course all is not lost. As reported in the NY Post, one idea put forth is to have an Atlanta based evangelist turn it into a mega-church and multi-purpose site (whatever that is). The minister, who drives a rolls and flies in a private jet, is appropriately named Creflo Dollar. This was definitely worth the wait! UPDATE: Here is an editoral from the NY Daily News on the report released by the BP entitled "Bronx Borough Pres. Ruben Diaz made a fool of himself claiming he'd find use for Kingsbridge Armory"

  1. I just read the report, which is a load of crap. What a BS artist that Ruben Diaz Jr. is!

This fiasco of proves that Baby Diaz is a killer of true opportunities for those seeking entry-level jobs.

  2. Oy Vey! The original plan for a shopping mall in the armory was the best, but Boro Prez Diaz killed that project and its 2,200 jobs. So now the Kingsbridge Armory sits empty. Shame on him!

  5. Big labor and other special interests love him for his stand, that's all that matters. He's the darling of the far left in NY for taking this stand.

  6. This armory mess will be a constant burden to any political future that Ruben Diaz, Jr. hopes to have.

  7. What a bad news week this is turning out to be for Rubén Díaz, Jr. It just shows how clueless a politician he truly is and how dumb his staff must be.

  8. Hey I kind of like the idea of a hockey rink at the armory, then there would be totally no need for one at Van Cortlant Park, if that one ever gets approved.

  9. I commend the BP for opposing the mall project at the Kingsbridge Armory. From a planning prospective, this mall project made absolutely no sense. To have 3 malls on the western corridor of the Bronx(Gateway mall, Kingsbridge, W.225th) housing all bix box retail stores such as Marshalls, Best buy, Target, etc, etc is a complete failure for the Bronx. How many best buys, Marshalls, Target's do we need in the Bronx? I read the report and i am very pleased to see other viable usage for the Armory. Now its up to Moneybags Bloomberg and NYC EDC to prepare and release an RFP for the Armory. But knowing how much of a baby Bloomberg is, i highly doubt he will resume talks with the BP regarding the Aromory. The Armory will sit vacant for the remainder of the Bloomberg Administration, and for that, you can't blame the BP.

Wow... The Armory taken over by a mega church, winning over the religious parishioners of Senior Diaz and Councilman Cabrera. Diminishing the Northwest Clergy Coalition grip. Possibly getting a forty year tax abatement as a religious establishment. No living wage job issue, because ushering is voluntary. Using church cash to develop the project, would eliminate political oversight on spending. What would our local politicos extort for their unions? And what next, Minister Creflo Dollar runs for Senate. Does he need residency? This schadenfreude could keep me giggling for years.

  11. It looks like Mr. Diaz cannot take accurate media criticism. The simple fact is that he BOTCHED the whole thing and that's why the Kingsbridge Armory is STILL SITTING EMPTY.

  12. What Ruben "Armory Killer" Diaz Junior does not seem to understand is that No Job equals No Job.

  13. It's too bad that the well of political talent in the Bronx is so shallow. With the exception of Councilman Jimmy Vacca, Bronx politicians are basically frauds, lightweights or vermin.

  14. BRONXITES, YOU DESERVE RUBEN DIAZ JR. BECAUSE YOU DON’T VOTE, AND THEREFORE YOU SHOULD NOT COMPLAIN WHEN HE DOES THINGS YOU DON’T LIKE!

When you think about it, the people of the Bronx are to blame for the fact that an ignoramus like Ruben Diaz Jr. is Borough President. That man was chosen by only a minuscule percentage of the people, and rest didn't even bother to vote -- so shame on them.

Diaz was first elected Borough President in a special election in 2009 where he received just 28,301 votes! That’s LESS THAN FIVE PERCENT (or 4.29 percent to be more precise) of the approximately 660,000 registered voters in the Bronx, and just TWO PERCENT of the nearly 1.4 million people who live in the Bronx.

If you want to be truly represented, and if you want quality elections, then it’s up to each and every one of you who are qualified to vote to actually do it. So please Register to Vote and then Cast Your Vote in each and every election.

  15. Creflo Dollar is a FRAUD (born Michael Smith).

And I would imagine there was some type of meeting between Dollar and Diaz Sr. to concoct some type of scam to convince the poor folks of the Bronx that the reason why they are poor is because they aren't tithing enough or praying enough to make them as rich as the BALLER that is Creflo Dollar and his god awful ugly wife TAFFI.

This guy is a televangelist. He bilks MILLIONS of dollars from the sick, the elderly, the hopeless, the poor, the uneducated and applies classic reverse psychology tactics on his flock. He was being INVESTIGATED for Fraud along with many other members of the televangelist mafia and he refused to turn over docs to Sen. Grassley for Senate Hearings.

His "friend" is Bishop Eddie Long, who just settled with a group of young men who claimed he molested them as young men and later engaged in sexual relationships with them all. Creflo's answer to Bishop Eddie Long's behavior? Watch this video in its entirety, but pay special attention to the 1:47 minute mark:

a REVEREND calling his congregation "some of you "negroes". JESUS CHRIST. This guy MUST be a good friend of the Diaz clan...he is the worst kind of shucker and jiver. A HUCKSTER in the name of the LAWD.

This entire plot to use the armory for a mega church is a damned disgrace. If you refuse to provide the poor with jobs, you can always beat them upside the head with religion so they can blame themselves for their circumstances.

    Anonymous @ 9:27,

Vacca voted to extend his own term limits. Not a statue of integrity.

  17. Low voter turnout is one reason why people like Ruben Diaz Jr. are so badly out of sync with the views of the people of the borough he supposedly represents.

  18. Thanks the Charter Revision Commission, there are once again terms limits to eventually put an end to Diaz's lackluster tenure as Bx BP.

  19. More interesting is the fact that NJ Governor Chris Christie has ruled out a presidential run yet again, and again, and again ...

  21. Since he killed the jobs...will the electorate finish him in 2013...only time will tell...the electorate needs to wake up and vote in someone of substance....i know just the guy..

  22. All the haters need to chill out a bit . . . It's easy to slate someone but difficult to compliment.

  23. Looks like the Kingsbridge armory has become mission impossible for Rubencito. That's his legacy.

  24. Why was the solar panel manufacturing idea a non-starter? I read that solar panels, but for the PV cells, can be constructed from fully recyclable materials. The Bronx has hundreds of people collecting and processing thousands of pieces of wood, metal, glass and wire. Surely a good portion could be utilized?
