Andy Wolf Kisses Diaz, Jr.'s Ring (And Everything Else)

Here is a campaign newsletter for Ruben Diaz, Jr. disguised as a legitimate article in the online NY Sun written by Andy Wolf -- the editor of the Riverdale Review. Wolf writes glowingly about Diaz and credits him for victories regarding jobs in the Bronx, the Kingsbridge Armory and the living wage. So while the Bronx remains the Borough with the highest unemployment rate in the City, somehow Wolf thinks Diaz has hit all home runs. Contrast that with this unprecedented joint editorial put out by four Bronx newspapers (the Riverdale Press, Norwood News, Hunts Point Express and Mott Haven Herald) about the living wage bill and the Armory, which said "Diaz’s statements saluting the deal and the revival of talks to develop the armory expose him as an empty suit."

  1. Andy wolf is on his last leg. He put out this bogus article for a favor to please the bum reporter who worked for him before joining the Diaz press office. Both of these guys are just local ink. Before D-Day on Dec 21,2012 these bums will be finished.

  2. This is a joke at least Carrion did some good for the Bronx. This kid needs to go work in foot locker on a living wage.

  3. Wolf is a desperate man. His rag is facing a major public boycott and he needs advertisers badly.

    1. Those bus shelter ads for "Boycott the Riverdale Review" have been up at Riverdale Ave. & W256th St. and Riverdale Ave. & W236th St. for nearly TWO MONTHS. That costs big bucks. So the real issue is WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS ??? There is a secret group trying to silence the Riverdale Review for selfish political gain. IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO TELL US WHO THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. Let's not pretend that Andrew Wolf is a victim. That insincere yellow journalist scandal monger is getting exactly what he desrves.

    3. The fact that the boycotters have managed to drastically cut Wolf's major advertisers shows that there's strength in numbers.

    4. I assume that the ads are paid for by the folks who were getting petition signatures against the Riverdal;e Review on Johnson Ave. outside Starbucks each week. But really, who cares who's paying for those ads? I don't.

    5. I'm glad to see that the boycott is really sinking its teeth into Wolf!

    6. The boycott is FAKE!!!!!!

It is being perpetrated by a group of local opposition political figures and their families in order to silence critics of Anthony Perez Cassino so he can run for office.

    7. I like seeing those ads at the bus stops each morning on my way to work. I know the people behind the boycott and they are normal, civic-minded people who are fed up with Andy Wolf's mean and destructive antics. These good people are defending our kids, our schools and or community. So more power to them!

    8. I laugh at Wolf every time I pass that bus stop

  4. Nobody reads the New York Sun online. Once the print edition died, that publication has been basically kaput (as in defeated, finished, gone!).

  5. Don't let Koppell off the hook.

    1. So as not to let Councilman G. OLIVER KOPPELL "off the hook" (or Congressman ELIOT ENGEL for that matter), I will continue to ask about the allegations that they secretly helped finance yellow journalist Andrew Wolf’s purchase of the Riverdale Review (a politically motivated tabloid) back in the 1990s.

If these two elected officials engaged in such shady dealings by using either their own money or other people's money to solidify their hold on a local news outlet, it would seem to be a flagrant conflict of interest as well as an egregious breach of the public’s trust.

For the record, the allegations were first made public by Richard Stein, co-publisher of the Riverdale Press, in the Jan. 16, 2003 edition of his newspaper. In a letter that he published addressed to Mr. Wolf under the title “Who’s selling the news,” Mr. Stein wrote:

“And speaking of secret deals, when will you disclose the roles that Congressman Eliot Engel and Councilman Oliver Koppell played in helping to finance your purchase of the Review? When will you reveal the identities of the politically-connected people who loaned you the money? What can you tell us about the ways those obligations influence what you write?”

It seems obvious to me that the allegations must be true . . . otherwise both politicians would surely have come out forcefully to deny them and indignantly attack the accusers.

So, at long last, Councilman Koppell and Congressman Engel need to please answer this question: ARE THE ALLEGATIONS TRUE?

In addition, it would be nice if Assemblyman JEFFREY DINOWITZ disclosed whether or not he had any involvement in helping to finance Mr. Wolf's purchase of the Review. It's already bad enough that Mr. Dinowitz buys full-page ads in the Review to publicize his annual parking calendar (which he just copies from the NYC Department of Transportation website).

    2. Why not try bringing this up in a public meeting instead of posting it here twice a week? I bet these guys aren't looking at the blog of a guy who lost an election to Oliver Koppell.

    3. The Review has been a mouthpiece for Engel and Dinowitz since its inception. Wolf also fawned all over Koppell for many years. All the while Koppell's wife, Lorraine Coyle continued to place front-page ads in the paper. Once she closed her real estate venture and stopped those ads, Wolf began to print criticisms of Koppell. It speaks to Wolf's character that he is completely for sale, with no scruples whatsoever.

    4. Politicians are Big Fat Liars, generally speaking. There ARE a few good ones, but they tend to get destroyed by the bad ones.

  6. It would also be nice if Koppell, Engel & Dinowitz exercised some leadership to clear up the falsehoods perpetuated by Andy Wolf.

  7. He is kissing ass because he is dying to get politicians to advertise with him since he has been bleeding corporate ads.

  8. The boycott is bring real grief to The Review, and it's about time. Viva la boycott!

  9. I can't even find the Riverdale Review in my building anymore. I live at 600 West 246th St and there have no copies in my laundry room for almost a month.

Either they are not delivered here anymore (which means they are cutting distribution) or else they are all dumped in the trash immediately. Either way, the Review is gone from my building.

    1. At 600 W 246th you should have looked in the mail room, but still it would not have mattered since the Riverdale Reviews are thrown in the garbage as soon as they are delivered there.

  10. Ok so I am confused by this article. He commends Diaz for his leadership on the Armory given the recent compromise with the Mayor's office AND he states that the living wage bill was ill conceived at the start BUT he give Diaz a pass for killing the original deal. Did I get this right?
