Bronx Political Chatter is a no holds-barred, irreverent look at politics in the Bronx. Bronxites have long lacked an independent forum to express our views about local politics and politicians. Bronx Political Chatter is a place for you to openly express your views, ideas, criticisms and suggestions, and to make our elected officials more accountable for the decisions they make. So this is your turn to be heard.

Great editorial.
ReplyDeleteMEMBER ITEM GRANTS, the LEGISLATIVE EARMARKS (or "PORK") that lawmakers dole out to favored constituent groups, should be ELIMINATED not just on the municipal level, but also on the federal and state levels.
Gee, I wonder if Candice Giove had a part in this.
ReplyDeleteThe City Charter should be revised to take away all this member item pork. City council members should have only one job, and that's making city laws.
ReplyDeleteMember items are the only reason why most local non-profit groups in New York City still exist! They could not survive without sucking up to the politicians who fund their charitable but often wasteful and inefficient ways.
ReplyDeleteNot a likeable character in the whole city council.
