Jeff Klein Goes After Doctors with Ties

Here is a bit of an odd story out of Albany. It seems that Bronx State Senator Jeff Klein and his Independent Democratic Conference are supporting legislation to ban doctors and some hospital workers from wearing neckties. It is believed that this will prevent the transfer of germs that might reside on the necktie. I guess they have not heard that the world has gone to casual wear.

  1. On Marcus Welby, M.D., Robert Young would always wear a jacket and tie.

  2. Oh puhleeze! What about all those hospital wokers walking around in the street wearing their scrubs when they are going to work or when they go out to get lunch?

  3. Actually its a problem - think about the last time you actually washed your tie? They are germ collectors. Regardless this is something hospitals need to address without politicians trying to be medical professionals

  4. The ties they really should go after are the ties between lawmakers and the powerful health & hospital workers' union.

Can anyone say 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East?

  5. Four years ago, in the fight against germs, the British National Health System adopted a “bare below the elbow” hospital-dress policy that bans long fingernails, neckties, hand and wrist jewelry, and those famous white lab coats.

  6. Glad–handing politicians are particularly revolting source of germs, so I try my best to avoid these people.

  7. i think they should ban state senators from earning outside sources of income that are conflicts of interest. say having a law office in your district that gets clients from your state senate office. or suppose putting your law partner on state payroll for a no-show job -- just so he can have health insurance.

I hope he wasn't romping around with the other State Senator when this brainstorm evolved. OMG I don't even want to visualize it. I really wish they were all busier with productive legislation.
