Former State Senator Pedro Espada and his son Pedro G. Espada pleaded not guilty today to new charges accusing them of tax evasion. They are charged with filing bogus tax returns for hundreds of thousands of dollars in business expenses for a community development company they ran. Last December they were charged with embezzling $500,000 from the health care clinic they ran to pay for Broadway shows, sporting events and meals. This is some family business.
It's getting hard to keep track of which politician has been charged or convicted of which crime. But the father-and-son thing makes this one a little special.
ReplyDeleteThe Espada's are not much different than most of the non-profits in the Bronx.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to look into the fundraising literature that went out for the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center in September. Don Bluestone was a BIG supporter of Pedro Espada. You know what they say about birds of a feather flocking together?
Don Bluestone sent out fundraising literature asking for donations to various Mosholu Montefiore Community Center programs. Potential contributers were given a choice as to where their funds would go...one of the programs was the MMCC OST program at PS 95. Thats a DYCD program...Bluestone knows full well he cannot seek private donations for a DYCD funded program. His organization submits RFP's for tax payer funds every year...he can't seek additional funding for DYCD funded programs.
I believe a THOROUGH AUDIT of any organization Espada was affiliated with is in order. And I hope Espada and his thug spawn ROT in prison.
rodents of the week!
